“Same-sex Marriage Day” for Wales & England
Today sees the first same-sex wedding ceremonies in Wales and England. The law, which spent so much time making its way through public consultation and Commons and Lords votes last year finally comes into effect today, Saturday 29th March.
The equivalent law for Scotland is expected to come into force in the Autumn – probably September. Meanwhile for Northern Ireland it remains a long wait as same-sex marriage has been blocked by some of the parties of the Stormont Assembly.
