WorldPride to feature bi art exhibition

Toronto welcomes the world this June for WorldPride 2014, a global celebration of LGBTQ communities. Over 1.2 million people are expected to come to Toronto to celebrate WorldPride. For the first time bisexual artists from around the world will be featured in a photography exhibition – “Fluid” – running June 1st to 30th, 2014.

“More than a million people from all over the world are estimated to be visiting WorldPride in Toronto this June. So what an exciting idea to have Fluid – a photography exhibition from bi artists – at a time and place that will raise the profile of both them and their work, and bi culture as a whole” says UK author and bi blogger Sue George. “So spread the word.”

The Call for Submissions is now open and will remain open until April 1st. Fluid welcomes works by bisexual, queer, pansexual, asexual, omnisexual, two-spirit, fluid and other non-exclusively straight or non-exclusively gay identities. Themes include “fluidity”, “instability”, “movement”, “shape”, and “liquidity.” Fluid will feature work in a variety of photo-based formats, including digital, analog, collage, alternative or historical processes.

“WorldPride is an exciting opportunity to highlight the work of the global bisexual community” says Catherine Jones, one of the exhibit’s organisers. “Bisexuals are largely invisible within the larger LGBTQ community and this is a chance to celebrate local and international bi artists.”

International BiCon Opens

The ninth International BiCon begins today in Toronto, Canada.

It runs from June 15th – 18th, 2006 at Ryerson University. The website describes the event as “The 9th International Conference on Bisexuality, Gender, and Sexual Diversity (aka 9icb)” – we expect it will be mostly called 9ICB or ICB9 by attendees.

The last UK-based International was the 6th in Manchester in 2000
