Can you write a manifesto for bisexuality in under 140 characters?

In the 1980s, the idea of a “bisexual manifesto” was born out of one of the first UK BiCons. By the time it had come to fruition there were not one but three different manifestos, reflecting different approaches to issues around liberation and equality.

At this year’s International BiCon in London, the idea was taken up again, to produce an international bisexual manifesto, and a working group are preparing it for launch on September 23rd.

As that is likely to produce a longish text, Bi Community News magazine editor Jen Yockney waggishly pointed out that in 2010 one of the golden rules is to try and sum up an idea in under 140 characters. Including a “#bisexualmanifesto” tag.

Bisexual Index picked up the idea and ran with it. “Bisexuality is simple, so I think it should be possible to sum up what bisexuals want the world to know in a short sentence, or in many different short sentences”, said Marcus Morgan, the group’s co-ordinator, “and I’m hoping we see an outporing of ideas in the run up to Bi Visibility Day”

So: can you explain what bis want in under 140 characters? Get tweeting – and remember the #bisexualmanifesto tag! (or you can just see what people are suggesting already thanks to Twitter’s search tool)

Bisexual Index will be making a teeshirt design based on the best slogan, and a selection will be carried in the next issue of BCN too.

"Bisexuality is simple, so I think it should be possible to sum up

co-ordinator, "and I'm hoping we see an outporing of ideas in the run
up to Bi Visibility Day"
