London Friend, the UK’s oldest LGBT health and well-being charity, are appealing for help to raise £200,000 to save their building from being sold at auction. While no bi groups meet there currently, it was for a long time home to London Bi Group (LBG), which ran for over 20 years and closed down a few years ago.
The charity has been given six months in which to raise the money to buy the premises from Islington Council, or potentially face eviction or substantial rent hikes. London Friend was given three weeks’ notice in the run-up to Christmas that the building was being put up for auction. After a lobbying campaign against this decision, the Council agreed to remove the building from the auction. London Friend are now fundraising hard. Find out more on their website.
