The February 1989 edition of Bi Monthly was memorable as the first time that an arm of the UK government took the bi community seriously. The centre pages were taken up by a big bold advert about safer sex, taken out by the Health Education Authority.
Under the slogan “They used to say masturbation was bad for you. Now it could save your life” the advert highlighted the 0800 freephone national AIDS helpline.
Sadly that issue of Bi Monthly was its last.
