Yesterday’s same-sex marriage vote passed by a huge margin, 400 votes to 175, a majority of 225.
It may be the biggest show of support for an LGBT equality measure in Parliament to date, as previous changes such as equalising the age of consent, abolition of ‘Section 28’, and the sexual orientation sections of the Equality Act were supported by fewer MPs.
The clear show of will from the elected house may make the bill’s progress in the Lords a little easier, but lobbying peers will still help.
But first it goes to the committee stages, where changes will be considered including an extension of civil partnerships to mixed-sex couples.
If you missed the debate it will be available on the BBC iPlayer for the next week, or you can catch the highlights as it was reported for most of the day on the @bicommunitynews twitter
