In a small government reshuffle, Simon Hughes has replaced Lord McNally as Minister of State for Justice. He will be stepping down as deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats to take up ministerial office.
Speaking after the announcement the central London MP said, “Issues of justice and civil liberties have been my passions since I was a teenager. I hope that my experience, training and work on human rights from my time at university and in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, as a practising barrister for several years before I was elected to the Commons, and over all my time as a Member of Parliament, will stand me in good stead for this job.
Simon is one of Westminster’s two out bisexual MPs, the other being the Conservative Daniel Kawczynski.
