In just over a week Wednesday 16th November, the LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing will be hosting Edinburgh’s very first LGBT Family Planning Event. It will explore family planning options available for LGBT people and give bisexual, trans, lesbian and gay people an opportunity to have their say.
Representatives have been invited from NHS Lothian, private Scottish health clinics, fostering & adoption agencies and a family law firm, to give a short presentation and answer questions on relevant services available to LGBT people in the Lothians.
Maruska Greenwood, Director of the LGBT Centre says, “Today families with lesbian, gay or bisexual parents are becoming gradually more seen and accepted. Increasingly same-sex couples are choosing to become parents through adoption, artificial insemination, surrogacy, or foster-parenting, while some gay, lesbian and bisexual parents have children from previous relationships. Starting a family can present unique challenges and decisions for same-sex couples and this is a rare and important opportunity for LGBT people to have their needs and concerns addressed.”
