With six months to go before this year’s big bi festival / conference BiCon, the call has gone out for people to help with the entertainments programme this August.
The organisers say:
The entertainments (Ents) at a BiCon is a huge part of the convention. Over the years we have seen them grow to an important part of the weekend. And as BiCon is run by volunteers, so are the entertainments. This is where we need your help. This year we have 4 nights to fill, and though we have some fantastic ideas for these evenings, we are missing a few vital elements.
Namely –
DJ’s (both experienced and new!)
Decorating volunteers (to help transform the bar for the Ball on Saturday night)
Painters and arty types (to help produce the decorations for the ball)We are hoping to out do ourselves this year (doesn’t the team say that every year?) and we can’t do this by ourselves. We will have some workshop time set out during the day for those arty crafty types to help with the decorations, but if you would like to make something and bring it along then please let us know. The Ball theme has now been announced so let your imagination run wild!
DJ’s – BiCon enjoys music, of all types, and we are aware that the music played at a BiCon can help to create some excellent memories of the event. If you have DJ’d at a BiCon before and would like to do it again then please tell us so we can sort out a timetable. If you are a DJ and haven’t played at a BiCon before but would like to, then please drop us a line and let us know.
We love our regular DJ’s, but this year we’d like there to be some new blood on the turntables and some new ideas behind the decks too. Could that be you or someone you know? If you have never DJ’d before, but would like to give it a go, we have some early evening slots for you to fill. You can take either a 30min or 60min slot and play whatever you want for this time. Maybe you would rather sort our your entire slot beforehand, maybe you would like to “wing it” and see where it takes you, perhaps you would like to stick to one genre instead or swap from prog to dubstep with no reasoning. Whatever your plans, let us know and we can give you your break (and the guid! The only thing we can’t promise is whether people will dance!
Contact Laura (by emailing ents@bicon2012.org.uk) with your plans and she will be in touch.
