Bis lead Sochi solidarity parade in Manchester

BiPhoria on the Manchester demoThe UK’s longest-running bisexual community group led a 1,200-strong protest march in Manchester today in solidarity with LGBT people in Russia as the Winter Olympics opened in Sochi.

BiPhoria shared honours in leading the parade with Dykes on Bikes, each taking half the parade route as lead.

A ‘human chain’ was then formed creating a circle of locked hands all around the city’s queer quarter, centred on Canal Street.

The Winter Olympics in Sochi have been the focus of controversy due to the Russian government’s growing biphobia, homophobia and transphobia.  LGBT equalities campaigners have organised events around the world to raise awareness of the situation for bi, gay and trans people in Russia, to coincide with the games.  We believe the Manchester event tonight was the largest such in the UK.
