Bi Social Network boss Adrienne Williams has been invited to a celebration of LGBT Pride Month, to be held at The White House and hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Adrienne has been asked to attend in recognition of her activism for the bisexual community.
BSN is roughly the USA’s equivalent of BiMedia, with a dash of BCN and a sprinkling of Bisexual Index thrown in.
At BiMedia we’re delighted to hear this news from across the pond – a sign of the seriousness with which a revitalising American bi movement can be treated and the respect being given to LGBT activism at the highest level of government, while battles continue to be fought state by state across that country for citizens to stand as equals before the law regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
Where the USA leads, will Britain follow? There have been similar functions in the UK for the last two years where Prime Ministers Brown and Cameron have invited big names and key activists from the LGBT communities to Downing Street receptions, but (so far as we know) no-one from any of the organisations doing significant work in and with the bi community have been part of that LG_T loop.
We shall see, but in the meanwhile: have a blast, Adrienne, and we’ll look forward to the photos!
