14th February 1996: Bisexual Action on Sexual Health

Sixteen years ago today, the peer education project set up by Bisexual Action on Sexual Health (BASH) held an awareness evening at George House Trust in Ardwick, Manchester. A couple of dozen bi and questioning people took part in a workshop about sexual health, sexually transmissible infections and safe/r sex.

BASH ran for a year as a funded peer education project with one paid worker, and after that year was followed on by the Bisexual Sexual Health Action group. The Manchester session was one of several around the country at that time – we just picked that one because it was on the 14th so we have an exact anniversary this month.

There’s been less work on sexual health targeted at bisexual people than we’d like to see; more work building on BASH and BSHA is probably overdue!
