Manchester bi group BiPhoria is 18 next week– and they’ll be getting together on Saturday to celebrate. Members old and new welcome to join in!
The group’s first meeting was held on 1st September 1994, the group having been formed following that year’s BiCon conference.
Eighteen years and three changes of venue later the group is still going strong with monthly ‘talky space’ type meetings in the local LGF community centre and regular pub and coffee meet-ups too.
In their 18 years they’ve hosted BiCon twice, held events to mark Bi Visibility Day almost every year (including the first Bi Visibility Day in 1999) and a plethora of BiFests, outreach stalls and sending of speakers to other groups and events.
They have notched up three important publications: their 2003 report on bisexual needs in the city, 2010’s report on bisexual people’s experiences of mental health services, and 2011’s “Getting Bi” pocket guide to coming out and staying out.
A proud record: happy birthday BiPhoria!
