Reports in the LGBT press in the USA suggest the White House will host a summit addressing bisexual issues on September 23.
The date – marked since 1999 as Bi Visibility Day – is clearly deliberately chosen, and the White House’s move to hold the event on that date will in turn help raise the profile of Bi Visibility Day.
The Washington Blade reports that according to an email passed to it, the meeting will be “a roundtable discussion on issues of importance to the bisexual community” to be held the Eisenhower Executive Office Building of the White House. “Participants and administration officials will discuss a range of topics including health, HIV/AIDS, domestic and intimate partner violence, mental health, and bullying.”
In the UK representatives of key bi organisations have been meeting with the Government Equalities Office for the past two years in a broadly similar initiative: it’s good to know that what’s been happening over here is set to start happening over there.
