Do they mean not us!?

The "Programme for Government"
The five year plan
The Liberal Democrat and Conservative coalition’s “Programme for Government” document has been published today, including a number of pledges on LGBT issues. Notably for bisexuals it includes the pledge that, “we will promote better recording of hate crimes against disabled, homosexual and transgender people, which are frequently not centrally recorded.”

Really – disabled, homosexual and transgender people? Dave, Nick, have you forgotten bis, or are hate crimes against us much better recorded?

The explanation is probably fairly simple – it looks like a merging together of plans to tackle hate crime against disabled people, and homophobic / transphobic crime. You can picture some policy wonks debating this “we can make it one sentence – what’s the “phobic” word for disabled people? Er. OK, how about the other way. Homophobic hate crime’s against homosexuals, transphobic against trans people, there we go.”

Of course, it’s not only bi people who that line of the government agenda misses out: homophobic and transphobic crimes also happen to straight, cisgender people.

We suspect that for once it’s no more sinister than that the government don’t quite mean what they say!
