Earlier this year the UK Census was carried out to gather information necessary to planning and improving service provision across the country.
But – despite lobbying in recent years – there was no question asking about sexual orientation. This missed a chance to find out important information about the lives of bisexual people across the UK. It is important that we are confident to make our needs and experiences heard, and to fight discrimination faced because of our sexual orientation. As the census is only run every ten years, that’s a long time to wait for possible inclusion in 2021.
We can stand up and be counted sooner than that!
LGF, a high-profile Manchester-based LGB project, are trying to build up that evidence base by asking many census questions in their “I Exist” online survey. With a couple of weeks to go before the survey closes (and prizes are drawn!) now’s the time to tell them about bi life.
